On his Twitter, The Rock himself broke the news... A new Moana poster is here!

He also confirmed that the full trailer will make its debut on Good Morning America this coming Thursday, which we saw coming from a mile away because Disney Animation's current autumnal releases usually get their first full trailer sometime in September. (Big Hero 6 bucked this trend by having its first full trailer debut in July of 2014, then a second full trailer followed in September.)

This poster is fantastic...

Not only is it to the point, and emphasizes the heroine and the character being played by the big name, but look at how they use the water here... So much detail, so much going on, it's compelling. The colors are perfect, and overall it's just so eye-catching. It's one of the better recent US posters for Disney Animation, up there with Zootopia's "characters everywhere!" poster.

We also got our confirmation on the rating. Predictably a PG, for predictable reasons: Peril! Thematic Elements! Scary images though... When's the last time a Disney animated film got a PG for that? As much as I love and admire most of WDAS' recent output, I want them to go full-on Walt-level scary again, have some frights that equal some of LAIKA's films and such. Maybe Moana will have just that. On a sidenote, that settles it. With this film's rating in, alongside the ratings for Trolls and Sing, no animated movie was given a G rating this year. A first?

Anyways, I'm excited to see what's in store for us, and every Monday from now on will be "Moana Monday". Each Monday we'll get a new taste of the film. Talk about getting the word out! This is Disney Animation's first 2-a-year whammy in 14 years, and they're not going to want another 2002 situation, so it's a good thing they plan to really really market this one. Of course they would, but at the same time the same marketing people mishandled two Pixar films last year, so anything was - to me - possible. But I'm relieved that Disney marketing is going to put their all into this one, now let's hope the public likes what they're seeing.

What say you?
